# Overview

A velocity bucket keeps a count on the number reached in a cumulative value. For example, when you send a request to the [Get Velocity Bucket Endpoint](/api/spend-control/velocity-buckets/get-velocity-bucket/), you can retrieve details of the limit (`counter`) reached in a cumulative rule applied to a specific card.
