This topic explains how a plastic/physical card is embossed, after a request is sent via the Create Card Endpoint.

Prerequisites:

  1. Send a request to the Create Card Endpoint.
    1. Specify GENERATED/WAITING for the pinStatus parameter.
      • If you specify GENERATED, a random PIN is generated. This is the default PIN status that makes the card ready for instant usage.
      • If you specify WAITING, you have to manually set the PIN later. To set the PIN, you can send a request via the Set PIN Endpoint. Once the PIN is set, the card is included in the next embossing file for printing the plastic form.
If you do not enter any value for the pinStatus parameter, a random PIN is automatically generated for the card.
    2. Enter values for the plastic data object, such as the embossing.name, the preferred.CardAddress, and the preferredCardDeliveryType parameters.
You can create a plastic card without any cardholder being associated with it; you can add this association later when you update the card via the Partially Update Card Endpoint.

Post Card Creation Request Via Endpoint

The card is added to the next scheduled embossing file for personalisation. The embossing file includes all cards that are ready for manufacturing, and the cards are prepared in the next scheduled cycle.
The card status is set to ACTIVE, and the card version status is set to INITIAL.

Card Production | Action for Card Manufacturers

When a plastic card is created/replaced/reissued/renewed, or if PIN is reordered — the events are included in the embossing file. The events inform card manufacturers about the specific actions required for card personalisation and delivery.
